Physics 551: Solid State Physics (Spring2013)

Textbook: "Solid State Physics" by Ashcroft and Mermin (placed on reserve at physics library).

Office hours:  (subject to change) Friday at 11:00-11:50 am and by appointment.

Final letter grade will be determined by the homework (40%),  three midterm exams (30%, 15% for each), the final exam (30%). Homework assignments will be bi-weekly, due on Wednesdays at the end of lectures. Each problem in homeworks and exams will be graded out of 10 points (unless stated otherwise), based on the following scheme: essentially correct - 10 points, strong effort - 7 points, some progress - 4 points, no progress - 0 points.
